Cowell Rd. Redtail Hawk nest
I’ve been watching this years brood of Redtail Hawks in the center divide of busy Cowell Rd. this year with trepidation and worry. The 4 young hawks were well fed, as I witnessed a parent bring home food and heard none on the usual squawks and screams of hungry offspring. They stood quietly in the nest with crops already bulging. This week all 4 hawks fledged and I couldn’t see them in any near trees. Carl’s been my eyes since he goes home that way frequently, and as he drove up the road yesterday he saw that the worst had happened, one of the fledglings had been hit and killed. I just wish the best for the other 3 and we’ll be looking forward to a new brood next year. Keep your eyes to the sky, (and the road) you never know what you might see.
